Jonathan Loaisiga

The New York Yankees have been hit with a significant setback. Their dynamic bullpen arm, Jonathan Loaisiga, has announced he will be missing the rest of the season due to a serious elbow injury.

Jonathan Loaisiga recently revealed to the press that he has torn the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and will require surgery, effectively ending his season. The surgery is expected to sideline him for 10 to 12 months, according to MLB.com.

“Loaisiga had landed on the 60-day injured list on Friday after Aaron Boone said the right-hander was dealing with a “significant forearm strain.”

The 29-year-old reliever clarified that the operation is not a Tommy John surgery.

Loaisiga’s absence will be felt keenly by the Yankees, as he was a key component of their bullpen. This season, he had pitched four scoreless innings over three appearances, striking out three.

“Obviously, it is concerning,” Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone voiced his worries before Yankees’ 3-0 loss to the Blue Jays.

Loaisiga, who becomes a free agent after this season, will now be focusing on his recovery.
