How to Deal With Your Controlling Mother

You’re an adult with your own career, home, and maybe some children. Does your mother still try to control your life and every decision you make? You can set boundaries with a controlling parent without damaging your relationship, experts say.“I think the key to having a controlling parent is to have kindness and boundaries with them. Be both firm and kind, not disrespectful to them in any way, but to set boundaries in your life and choices,” says Cara Gardenswartz, PhD, a psychologist with Group Therapy LA in Beverly Hills, CA.A controlling mother may be unhappy when you push back against her advice. Things Parents of Kids With ADHD Wish You Knew

It takes a lot of time, effort, and patience to be a good parent, especially if your child has ADHD. But even though millions of children have the disorder, faulty ideas about it are widespread. Macaulay Culkin, Brenda Song Reveal Their Baby's Name And It's So Heartwarming

Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song have welcomed their first child: a son named Dakota Song Culkin, born on April 5. In an exclusive to Esquire published Monday, the couple announced that the child was named in honor of Culkin’s late sister Dakota, who died in 2008 at the age of 29. The new parents told Esquire they were “overjoyed” with their new child, who weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces, at birth.  Culkin and Song have been romantically linked since they met in Thailand on the set of the film “Changeland” in 2017, and said in early 2020 that they were working on starting a family.  Culkin told Esquire at the time that he and Song would “practice a lot” when it came to family planning. “We’re figuring it out, making the timing work,” he told the publication. “Because nothing turns you on more...

Nobody ever said parenting was easy, but depending on circumstances, some people can find it much harder than others. In recent years researchers have begun to recognize 'parental burnout' – a condition in which exhausted parents become overwhelmed by their role as primary carers, potentially leading to emotional distance from their children, parental ineffectiveness, neglect, and worse in some cases.  But where does this phenomenon come from? To examine whether cultural factors might contribute to parental burnout, a team led by researchers from UCLouvain in Belgium surveyed over 17,000 parents living in 42 countries (with the data being collected between 2018 and March 2020, in the relatively normal parenting conditions before COVID-19 lockdowns commenced around the world). In addition to...
