Filmmaker Robert Eggers has been working for years on reviving the 1922 silent film, Nosferatu. Despite the numerous obstacles in its development, a first published image confirms that this long-awaited project is finally materializing. This image, published exclusively by the magazine empire, shows a disturbing shadow of Count Orlok’s claw on Lily-Rose Depp’s face, although it has not yet revealed an official view of the main character. This new Nosferatu hitting theaters in 2024.
Eggers describes his work as a gothic horror and horror film. “There hasn’t been a gothic movie really scary in a long time,” Eggers said in an interview with the media. According to him, the majority of the public will find this film particularly chilling. In addition, he highlighted that this versionn focuses even more on the character of Ellenplayed phenomenally by Lily-Rose Depp.
The new reinterpretation of this vampire myth is described as a gothic tale of obsession between a tormented young woman (Lily Rose-Depp) in 19th century Germany and an ancient Transylvanian vampire (Bill Skarsgrd) who pursues her, bringing with him unimaginable horrors. The cast also includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, Emma Corrin, Simon McBurney and Ralph Ineson.
Eggers praised Bill Skarsgrd’s transformation for the role, fearing that his performance could go unnoticed due to his profound change. According to Eggers, Skarsgrd honors its predecessors with a very subtle approachrepresenting the vampire more like a noble dead transylvanian, in a way never seen before. The film promises to be a unique update of the classic, with more updates expected before its release in 2024.
