(CNN) – Iraq’s Interior Minister announced the arrest of 14 people over the Al-Hamdaniyah wedding hall fire, in which at least 100 people were killed and another 150 injured.
Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari said Wednesday that 14 people were arrested in connection with Tuesday’s incident at a wedding hall in Al-Hamdaniyah, and stressed that the results of the investigation will be announced within of 72 hours, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
Tragedy at a wedding in Iraq: at least 100 people die after fire
The tragedy took place in the village of Qaraqosh, Hamdaniya district, Iraq.
The wedding hall had 1,300 guests at the time of the fire, Iraqi Joint Operations Command spokesman Pilot Maj. Gen. Tahseen Al Khafaji told CNN.
The disaster at the Al Haytham wedding hall in northeastern Nineveh governorate was caused by fireworks, candles and other materials used during the celebration, the statement added.
