The former American president Donald Trump (2017-2021), main contender for the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential electionssuggested this Wednesday during a campaign event that the rest of the pre-candidates are only looking for a job as a government official.
“Everyone is looking for work. They would do anything…they want to be secretary of something, even vice president. Do you see any vice presidents in the group? I do not think so“Trump said in front of a group of workers at a vehicle components factory in Michigan.
The former president’s words, addressed to the rest of the candidates for the Republican nomination for the elections, occurred a few minutes after the start of California the second conservative primary debate, to which Trump, for the second time, decided not to attend.

In the past, the Republican has defended his decision not to participate in the Republican debates due to the advantage he has over the rest of the candidates in the polls. According to the average of surveys prepared by the FiveThirtyEight website, the former president leads the race with a voting intention of 51%.
Trump, with the automobile sector
During his speech in Michigan, which coincides with a strike by the automobile workers union (UAW) that affects the three large companies in the sector in USA, General Motors, Ford y StellarTrump repeated some of his favorite slogans, such as the alleged corruption of the federal government or the achievements of his Administration in the field of international trade.
The former president even repeated his insinuations that there was electoral manipulation during the elections. 2020 presidential electionin which he lost against the current president, Joe Bidendespite the fact that he is immersed in two criminal cases precisely for trying to reverse the electoral result.
However, his main message was against the Biden Government’s subsidies for the production of electric vehicles, which, in his opinion, are “too expensive“and they don’t go”far enough”.
Trump did not clearly say whether he supports the strike in the sector, but he did criticize the three car companies for bending to the will of the Administration, a decision that, he warned, will end up moving vehicle production outside the United States.
At no point did he mention, however, that gasoline and diesel vehicles account for around 30% of all polluting gas emissions from the energy sector, which is already the most polluting in the country, according to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA, in English).
The United States is the second most polluting country in the world, behind only China.
