To the surprise of many, the new generation of iPhone 15 mobile phones has not arrived accompanied by a price increase but rather a slight reduction compared to previous generation models. However, this small economic relief for iPhone buyers is not reflected in the survey carried out by the online price comparator Idealo on the preferences of Spanish consumers when purchasing a new terminal. This reveals that The average price of an iPhone increased by 17% between August 2022 and 2023.
This average price, which corresponds to several generations of iPhone smartphones still on sale and not just the most recent one, has increased in a year 125 eurosstanding in 849 euros. Despite its increase in price, it remains below what the most basic iPhone 15 costs, 959 euros, and very far from the top-of-the-range model, 1,969 euros.
In the case of mobiles Androidwhich covers many more models and manufacturers, its average price is much lower but it has experienced an increase of 10% in the last year. Idealo places it in 353 euroswhich means an increase in the cost of some 35 euros during this time.
The price difference between both types of smartphone is one of the reasons why Spanish consumers mostly opt for cell phones with the Google operating system. According to the comparator, 77% prefer Android while 18% opt for iOS and the remaining 5% are indifferent.
When breaking down this data by sex, 79% of men choose Android and 16% iOS while women choose 75% in favor of Android and 20% in favor of iOS.
Despite this preference for Android, searches on Idealo corroborate that, at least, iPhones are the mobile phones that arouse the most interest. The three most searched cell phones are the iPhone 11, 13 and 12in this order, while the first Android mobile, in fourth position, is the POCO X3 Pro and the fifth Redmi Note 10 Pro.
In an analysis of demand for Apple and Android devices in countries where Idealo operates, a mixed preference is revealed. Austria, United Kingdom and Spain lead in demand for Androidwhile Germany, France and Italy favor Manzanaalthough preferences have varied throughout the year, said Kike Aganzo, Head of Communication at Idealo.
