Swiatek charges hard against the WTA schedules

For a long time Iga Swiatek has been, in addition to the No. 1 in the world, the spokesperson for the women’s circuit every time an injustice occurs. Like the one that took place in Montréal with the schedules, for example. Normal that the Polish has cracked in this way upon her arrival at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati.

The chaos of Montreal

“Of course, the weather is something we can’t really predict, but maybe we should focus more on what’s healthy for the players that we have to compete every week. The tour is very intense with the travel, we don’t usually have two days of calm, so in the future it would be positive to focus on the players, especially for next year, where there will be more and more mandatory tournaments, as well as longer tournaments.” .

It’s not the first time…

“I think there have been unprofessional situations, really. I can’t really say what the tournament did wrong, it seems that the most important thing here is the WTA. The leadership is being a bit weak at the moment, but I hope something changes soon because this year there were already many situations that I really can’t train.

Personal experiences

“During the European clay court tour, both in Rome and Madrid, I played four games that ended at or after midnight. I understand that we have to adapt to televisions and all that, but I also asked the WTA for some data to see if people are watching those matches that start at 10:00 p.m. I didn’t get anything, but it would be easier to understand to see if it makes sense to play so late.”

The problem of playing late

“It’s not that we finish our game and immediately go to sleep, things don’t work like that. Many hours are spent in that section. In my case, I’m happy if I go to sleep four hours after playing my game, where I have almost an hour of treatment, attention to the media, stretching after the game, dinner and then lower the adrenaline a bit. None of this is easy, I wish I could change it, but that’s it.”

Roland Garros night day

“What I hear from the people around me is that they are always watching the first game of the night session but, really, I don’t know if they are going to watch the second one later. Do you watch those games? I mean, I guess they have to, maybe it’s a stupid question. But do you like to watch those games at that time? That would be interesting”.
