The leather patch, or Batman as he is called in English and now also in Swedish, made his debut in the American comic book “Detective Comics” number 27, 1939. There, the orphan Gotham millionaire, Bruce Wayne, created by the artist Bob Kane and the writer Bill was introduced Finger.
Last Friday, the price was the equivalent of over SEK 6.5 million, but according to experts the newspaper has spoken to, it will likely increase, partly because number 27 is seen as something of a holy grail in the comics world, together with “Action Comics” number 1 from 1938 where Superman appeared for the first time.
— That’s when this hero hysteria started and 1.5 million dollars (about 16 million kroner) is not an unreasonable guess. It’s so sought after that it’s going to get crazy attention, Ted VanLiew, owner of Super World Comics in Massachusetts, told the paper.
The first Superman magazine holds the record for the most expensive comic book. It went for 5.3 million dollars, equivalent to 56 million kroner, at a private sale in 2022.
How expensive the Batman magazine will be remains to be seen. The auction ends in Dallas, Texas on March 30.
