Citizens of Mariupol, in the Donetsk People’s Republic, have thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for the liberation of the city.
“Thank you for the win!”, expressed a woman during a conversation between a group of residents and the president in a newly built housing complex. In addition, one of the families invited Putin to visit his apartment.
Citizens described the residential complex as “a little piece of paradise.”
This is the first visit of the Russian president to Donbass. Putin arrived by helicopter, drove through various neighborhoods in the car and toured some city facilities. Among other things, the Russian leader inspected the interior of the Mariupol Philharmonic building and assessed the quality of the reconstruction works carried out.
The city of Mariupol was liberated in April 2022 during the special military operation, but a part of a grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was entrenched at the Azovstal steel plant. On May 20, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the surrender of almost 2,500 Ukrainian fighters blocked in the factory and the conclusion of the operation to liberate the city.
