Star from the school bench
The future star grew up in the village of Zubovka, Astrakhan Region, in the family of a simple teacher. Babkina liked the village way of life: pictures of self-repairing the house and caring for animals were forever frozen in her memories. She was not at all afraid of hard work and was glad to help her mother with the housework.
From the age of four, the girl dreamed of becoming an artist, which did not really please her parents, who wanted a stable profession for her: a doctor or an engineer. The younger brother of Nadezhda Babkina, Valery, was also fond of music – he played the button accordion, guitar and piano. It was he who was the first accompanist at his sister’s children’s performances.
At school, Babkina took up amateur art and had already firmly decided on her vocation. From the 10th grade, she participated in youth festivals and became a laureate of All-Russian competitions. The girl was looking forward to how she would study vocals professionally, but in the end she succumbed to the persuasion of her parents and entered a medical university. She lasted only one semester, and then turned to a relative conductor for help and moved to the Astrakhan Music College.
Two years later, the singer got a job as a soloist in a pop orchestra during filming: before the start of the sessions, she performed Russian folk compositions.
