"world is fine": Lineker looking forward to TV return

After the dispute with the BBC was settled, football pundit Gary Lineker returns to the screen this Saturday.

“After a surreal few days, I’m glad we found a way. I’m relieved to be back to work. The world is fine,” said the former England international on LaLiga TV.

The 62-year-old is set to host the FA Cup quarter-finals between Manchester City and Burnley after being suspended by the public broadcaster last week.

Lineker stressed that the situation was “resolved” but “completely disproportionate”. The suspension period has been an interesting week, “and I’m still here and still giving out,” said Lineker, who was delighted with the “incredible” support from his friends and colleagues.

Referring to London’s migration policy, Lineker tweeted that the rhetoric of the Conservative British government was “not unlike that of Germany in the 1930s”. The BBC saw this as a violation of its strict rules of neutrality and suspended the popular moderator.

As a result, several moderators and commentators refused to work on their part, in the flagship show “Match of the Day”, otherwise directed by Lineker, only game scenes were shown without comment. Critics accused the BBC of bowing to government pressure.
