MOSCOW, March 18. /TASS/. Russia may host the Fencing World Cup after Germany refuses to host the tournament. This was announced to TASS on Saturday by Dmitry Svishchev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports.
“We can host the World Cup stage,” Svishchev said. “We have all the necessary opportunities and experience. Moreover, our athletes will be allowed to compete in international competitions. Therefore, I see no obstacles for us to accept these competitions.”
On March 10, the Congress of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) decided to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in international competitions in a neutral status. On March 16, the German Fencing Federation canceled the World Cup stage due to the FIE decision on the admission of Russians. The competition was to be held May 5-6 in Tauberbischofsheim.
