While the ski season comes to an end at the World Cup final in Soldeu in Andorra, Swiss ski ace Aline Danioth fights back. The Swiss suffered a cruciate ligament tear in her right knee at the beginning of March in the European Cup giant slalom in Gaellivare, Sweden. Her season was over.
Now the 25-year-old spoke up on Instagram. For a photo that shows her smiling, Danioth writes: “Step by step, day by day, goal by goal and just go with the flow!” Today she got a bone transplant to fill the big holes of the last surgery.
“It will heal in a few weeks and we can then decide the next steps,” continues Danioth, who shows a small plush lion in another photo. Numerous ski stars liked and commented on the post from the hospital – such as Michelle Gisin or Marco Odermatt.
Aline Danioth has been injured many times
After the terrible news, Danioth spoke up on social media. “It feels like a nightmare,” she described her state of mind at the time. The 25-year-old finds it difficult to accept this, but she does not give up. “My focus now is on my health: physically and mentally. There is a lot of darkness in me. But I hope that sooner or later I’ll see some light again,” says Danioth.
For the ski racer it is already the sixth serious injury of her career. For the fourth time it is the cruciate ligament that is broken. So far she has always come back. At the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, she finished a strong tenth place after an injury break of almost two years. This season, Danioth surprised with a sixth place in the World Cup slalom.
