The Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (PFUR) has replaced its Vice-Rector for Student Affairs after Ukrainian flags appeared at one of the university exhibitions.
The exhibition in question took place at the end of February. It was dedicated to the fraternities; it included an exposition of Ukrainian culture.
After the propaganda media wrote about the exhibition in a negative way, the Ministry of Education and Science organized an inspection of the university. Deputy Minister Konstantin Mogilevsky stated that the appearance of the flags of “a state headed by a neo-Nazi regime today, a state whose armed formations kill <…> under these flags, is absolutely unacceptable.”
Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Sergei Bazavluk, commenting on the exhibition, noted that he “understands the information wave taking into account the situation,” but emphasized that the main mission of RUDN University is to unite people of different nationalities. He also notedthat in the current realities it is necessary to support students from Ukraine in the Russian Federation.
Bazavluk was replaced as vice-rector by Mikhail Katsarsky. As noted on the RUDN website, he worked in the Federation Council for more than eight years.
