Montero commissions a "who cares" anthem from Alaska sung by trans children to celebrate his law

The Ministry of Equality has put out to tender the hiring of a campaign to “transmit contagious joy” to the Spanish after the approval of the Trans Law, which allows you to change your sex freely, without the need to provide medical or psychological reports or submit, as up to now, to to hormonal treatments. The law, which has been rejected by the medical community and judges, in addition to a part of feminism, allows minors, from the age of 12, to request a sex change in the registry.

The campaign, “on sexual and gender diversity and against LGTBI” -with a cost of 121,000 euros- will be developed especially with a view to the next Spanish Presidency of the European Union, which will take place in the second half of the year. The intention of Irene Montero is “to show Spain as a country at the forefront of LGTBI rights”, which she considers “a reason for Pride for all, all and all», as stated in the contract documents, to which OKDIARIO has had access. “A Pride” -in capital letters, alluding to the International LGTBI Pride Day, which is celebrated on June 28- “that we want to share with Europe on the occasion of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, where social policies will have priority on the agenda”.

Among the objectives, Equality intends to “send an overcoming message” that the people belonging to this group “can finally enjoy their rights, live them, be happy in a freedom released after a long time pursuing the necessary tools to be able to make it effective.”

“New Spain”

In addition, you want “transmit a contagious joy” to the Spanish, associating «sexual, gender and family diversity with joy, positivity, to the image of a new Spain».

“The idea of showing the rainbow of diversity»he adds, “is that it is so broad that it is incapable of distinguishing itself from society itself: it is not an advertisement for clothing or image bank, has to show that this diversity is real and visible in any street of a Spanish population ». It is worth remembering the controversy surrounding the ministry’s campaign in which several women appeared on the beach, whose images were used and manipulated without authorization.

The campaign will target the general population to “reinforce this value of wealth, solidarity, community, openness.” Likewise, Igualdad indicates that other aspects will have to be taken into account, such as «musicality», for what he thinks of as «a choir of very diverse people, including childhoods transbut also very diverse profiles in age, ethnic origin, abilities, etc., singing a protest song”, Who caresfrom Alaska.

According to Montero’s department, “this song could work as a hymn to celebrate the advances in LGTBI rights, that is endearing and remains in the collective imagination». «A hymn that anyone can interpret to join the celebration: whatever happens, this country is already like that, it is ours, it is yours. it’s our legacy».

Controversy

The Trans Law, which has recently entered into force, allows the free change of sex in the Registry, with no other requirement than the will of the interested party. From 12 to 14 years old, the minor will have to have a judicial authorization and from 14 to 16, he will have to be assisted by his parents. However, in case of disagreement with the parents, the law indicates that a “judicial defender” will be appointed, who will act in favor of the best interests of the minor. From the age of 16, the registry modification will be totally free.

The rule, highly controversial, has generated several controversies. For example, it does not have mechanisms to prosecute fraud -and prevent, for example, its intentional use in competitive examinations or bonuses- nor control to prevent men with a history of sexual or gender violence from changing their sex in the registry. This was reported by several feminist organizations to the Ministry of Equality during the drafting of the law, integrated into the Alliance Against the Erasure of Women. This platform, which brings together historical feminists of the PSOE, claimed to include in the articles some filter for «prevent exploitation by sexist aggressors”. They expressly indicated that “the change of registered sex to a male should not be allowed.” with a history of sexist or sexual violence».

In addition, the standard allows determining a “risky situation” for a minor in the event that his “family environment” refuses to “respect” his “sexual orientation and identity, gender expression or sexual characteristics, such as building block of their personal development.

This refusal by their parents or guardians will be considered a “risk indicator»which can lead to the «intervention of the competent public administration”.
