Former US President Donald Trump claims he will be arrested on March 21 as part of an investigation into financial fraud. The corresponding statement appeared on Trump’s Truth Social social network.
Trump said he obtained this information through “illegal leaks” from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. He did not give any details about possible charges, but called on his supporters to protest.
The Manhattan prosecutor’s office did not give official comments.
Trump is accused of violating campaign finance rules. According to investigators, Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen paid $130,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels, who was going to publicly speak about an alleged affair with a politician. These expenses were then illegally compensated from Trump’s campaign fund. Cohen himself received three years in prison for this in December 2018.
On the eve of many American media wrotethat Trump could be formally charged within the next week. It is expected that after a formal arrest, the former president will be brought before a judge, after which he will be released on bail. In this regard, CNN reported, law enforcement agencies in New York worked out interagency cooperation for a week in order to prevent possible unrest in the city.
