Marco Odermatt won the World Cup giant slalom at the alpine ski finals in Soldeu on Saturday and with 2,042 points broke Hermann Maier’s record of 2000 with 2,000 points. Second, already 2.11 seconds behind, was the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen, Marco Schwarz improved by eight places in the final and finished third (+2.29). Manuel Feller ended up eleventh.
With his 13th win of the season, the Swiss Odermatt also matched the record of wins in a winter by Ingemar Stenmark (1978/79), Maier (2000/01) and Marcel Hirscher (2017/18). It was his 24th career World Cup victory.
