Conmebol announced that the bonus will join the competition’s other prizes
A conmebol announced this Friday, the 17th, that the winner of each game in the group stage of the cups liberators e Sul-Americana will receive, as of this edition, a financial prize in addition to the amount stipulated for participation. The sports merit bonus, exclusive to the group stage, will be US$ 300,000 (BRL 1.5 millionat current exchange rates) for the winner of each Libertadores game and US$ 100,000 (R$ 520 mil) for South America. “This is an important incentive for all participating teams, whatever their score or position in the table, to seek victory in each game”, explained the entity in a statement. Conmebol’s expectation is that, with the incentive, tournaments will have “more disputed games” and that clubs will take “more risks on the field, for the benefit of spectators”. For playing in the Libertadores group stage, each club has a guaranteed prize pool of US$ 3 million (R$ 15 million). This year, Libertadores will distribute up to US$ 207.8 million, 21% more than in 2022. Participation in the group stage of the Sul-Americana will give US$ 900 thousand (R$ 4.7 million) to each club. Payouts for the championship in 2023 amount to 30% more than last year.
