Tazacorte gets the Government to buy the Casa del Mar to rehabilitate it

The Vice President of the Canary Islands and Minister of Finance, Budgets and European Affairs, Román Rodríguez, issued an order this week agreeing to the acquisition of the Casa del Mar de la Villa y Puerto de Tazacorte, based on the economic offer presented by the National Institute of Social Security, owner of the property, for the purchase of this for an amount amounting to 288,485.10 euros.

For the candidate of Nueva Canarias in the coastal town, Juan Miguel Rodríguez, it is “excellent news for our municipality, both for the purpose of public interest that is pursued with the acquisition of the property and for the situation of deterioration in which it is located. . In addition, it requires its comprehensive rehabilitation with the aim of allocating it to services of the Autonomous Community, something for which its acquisition was essential.

“The truth is that the Casa del Mar, considered an emblem of Tazacorte, was built more than half a century ago. It is currently in a dilapidated state, for which it has even been surrounded by a protective fence for almost a decade to avoid the danger of accidents to pedestrians. Thanks to the efforts made in recent years by the City Council, we have managed to ensure that Román Rodríguez complies with the commitment of its acquisition by the Government of the Canary Islands”, Rodríguez specified.

The next step, as detailed by the progressive nationalist, involves “drafting the rehabilitation and reform project, since the idea is to convert this property into a Marine Interpretation and Research Center, ceding part of its facilities to the Canary Islands Oceanic Platform so that they have a headquarters in La Palma. The objective would be to promote, from here, the recovery of marine biodiversity and the blue economy of Tazacorte, promoting research and development applied to job creation with economic activities based on environmental sustainability.

Finally, Juan Miguel Rodríguez assured that “the men and women who are part of NC in Tazacorte had denounced, since the last legislature, the unpresentable situation in which Casa del Mar found itself.” Some circumstances that, he understands, do not only affect “the residents of our municipality”, but also generate a “bad image” in “one of the most important tourist enclaves on La Palma”.
