Simon Emerson is dead.  The frontman of Afro Celt Sound System died the day after his birthday

Simon Emerson – guitarist, producer and DJ – died the day after his 67th birthday. His friends and loved ones reported that the musician had been ill for a long time, while asking for respect for their privacy.

Group founded in 1995 by Simon Emmerson Afro Celt Sound System combines electronic sounds with traditional Celtic climates and West African music.

The British formation releases its albums in the company owned by Peter Gabriel Real World Records. The famous singer said goodbye to the band leader in an emotional post on social media.

“Simon Emmerson’s aspirations, musicianship and determination touched us all, changed many things for the better and enriched our lives. From all of us at Real World and WOMAD, you will always be remembered here as a core part of our family,” Gabriel wrote.

The achievements of Afro Celt Sound System so far include seven studio albums (the last one is “Flight” from 2018). Peter Gabriel or Sinead O’Connor.
