Raccoon dog DNA found in Wuhan challenges lab hypothesis

Illegal wildlife trade may have played a role in the spread of the coronavirus. According to the US magazine “TheAtlantic” an examination of samples from the Huanan animal market by an international team of virologists. The researchers succeeded in detecting DNA from raccoon dogs, which were probably infected with Sars -CoV-2 were infected. The market had already been cleared at the time the samples were taken. Cages and carts for transporting goods, however, allowed swabs to be taken. Raccoon dogs can transmit the corona virus, trading in them is illegal.
