Joachim of Denmark (53) is now leaving his tents in France after Queen Margrethe (82) stripped his four children of his title. The prince himself confirmed this in an interview with the Danish newspaper “Billed Bladet” at the beginning of November. At the time, however, he still kept to himself where the prince was going. The Danish newspaper “BT” reported shortly thereafter that it had learned from insider circles that the family was going to the USA. Now the palace has confirmed this information. Joachim and his family move to Washington DC
Joachim of Denmark starts new job in Washington DC
Together with his wife Princess Marie (46) and their two children Henrik (13) and Athena (10), Joachim has lived in the French capital Paris since 2019. The family will now pitch their tents there for the time being.
Instead, the royals are going to Washington DC, as the palace officially announced in an Instagram post: “On September 1, 2023, His Royal Highness Prince Joachim will take up a new position in the Ministry of Defense as Defense Industry Attaché at the Danish Embassy in Washington DC compete, where the prince, as a representative of Denmark, will contribute to strengthening cooperation between the defense industry and the USA and Canada in the coming years.” Joachim and his loved ones will move accordingly in the summer.
Memories of Prince Harry’s move to the United States
After a rather bumpy end to 2022 – Joachim’s mother Queen Margrethe determined that Joachism’s four children Nikolai (22), Felix (20), Henrik and Athena would lose their titles from January 1, 2023 – the prince would like to have one together with his family risk a fresh start. This also means that he will turn his back on his previous adopted home of Paris in the summer. His current move to the United States is strongly reminiscent of Prince Harry’s (38) metamorphosis. King Charles III’s son (74) announced in January 2020 that he and his wife Duchess Meghan (41) would resign from their royal duties and start a new life in California. Harry and Joachim have been linked before, with a Danish newspaper calling the Danish prince a “ticking time bomb” and theorizing that he could, like Prince Harry, write a book about what went on behind the scenes at the palace.
In fact, there is another thing in common between the two royals: Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II († 96) and Joachim’s mother Queen Margrethe were very close friends for decades. In the personal interview with “ITV”, the Danish regent even revealed that the two royal ladies had nicknames for each other. Margrethe called the Queen “Lilibet”, while King Charles’ mother addressed her friend as “Daisy”.
