Around noon this Friday, the self-convened teachers ratified the strike for an indefinite period of time, and at night they went out again to demonstrate. It was another torchlight march, around Plaza España.
This day can be considered a hinge in the conflict, given the importance of what took place mainly in Government House.
Around noon, three self-summoned people entered that place to hold a meeting with Luis Rueda, Undersecretary of the Interior Unit. The official asked them to return to the classrooms in order to reopen the dialogue. But, after debate and assembly in the 19 departments through the delegates, the teachers communicated that they unanimously decided to continue with the strike and the mobilizations in the streets.
“They entered with a proposal that they later modified. They did not accept what had been discussed and there we cut off the dialogue because the condition was that on March 1, the boys would start classes normally. After the assembly that took place recently , several returned and that must be recognized,” said Rueda.
“We are willing to talk, but not under pressure,” he remarked.
