Nord-Stream-Sabotage: Französischer Politiker hält Washingtons Beteiligung für offensichtlich

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Florian Philippot, leader of the French party Les Patriotes, said US involvement in the Nord Stream blasts was obvious. Norway might also be interested.

On Friday the Russian news agency RIA Novosti an interview with Florian Philippot, leader of the small French party Les Patriotes, published. The politician commented on the alleged US involvement in the Nord Stream sabotage. According to him, it has long been apparent that the US was behind the gas pipeline blasts. Even before the escalation of the Ukraine crisis, Washington had been fighting against the pipeline for years and made it a permanent part of its policy.

In this context, Philippot recalled a statement made by US President Joe Biden at a press conference with Chancellor Olaf Scholz in early February 2022. At that time, Biden would have said that the Americans could do it, that the pipeline no longer existed. Philippot sees this as some sort of proof of US involvement in last September’s bombings.

“That is what happened. And it was in the interest of the Americans.”

Although US participation is obvious, according to the politician, he is not entirely sure about Norway’s role. Nevertheless, he notes that Oslo also has its interest, as it competes with Russia in gas trading. In addition, many European countries have replaced Russian gas with Norwegian gas over the past year.

Nord Stream 2 is the name of the second, newer pipeline, which was intended to significantly expand the capacity of the original Nord Stream 1, but never became operational. Both natural gas pipelines were put out of operation by sabotage in September last year. Both the US and Norway denied their involvement in the incident.
