A ministerial delegation is on its way to Japan with Chancellor Scholz. The first joint intergovernmental consultations between Germany and Japan are taking place there. The main topic is likely to be the alliance against China and the preparations for a military escalation.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz travels to Japan with six ministers. These are the first joint intergovernmental consultations between Germany and Japan. It is about economic, but also about military cooperation. The alliance for the confrontation with China should be deepened. Like Germany, Japan wants to free itself from its dependence on China and sides with the United States, which is fighting against its loss of influence.
Like the Federal Republic, Japan is arming itself massively, reported the foreign policy blog German Foreign Policy. Japanese military spending is to be increased to two percent of economic output.
Germany is not only providing military support to Ukraine, but is also increasing its presence in the Pacific. A military conflict with China is obviously being prepared there under the leadership of the USA, which is not only massively arming its own military bases in the region, but also the island of Taiwan, which is off the Chinese mainland.
At the same time, the conflict over the Kuril Islands breaks out again. The Kuril Islands are a chain of islands in the Russian Far East claimed by Japan. This is one of the reasons why no peace treaty was signed between Japan and Russia after the Second World War. The peace negotiations with Japan, which have been going on for more than 70 years, were suspended last year. Japan provokes the conflict by deviating from the practice of accepting the status quo and labeling the chain of islands “occupied by Russia”.
Japan is also upgrading its military, which was previously equipped purely for defensive actions, with the aim of carrying out counterattacks on the territory of a possible opponent. This is clearly aimed at China. To this end, Japan is buying medium-range cruise missiles, among other things.
This rearmament of Japan is accompanied by an expansion of the US presence at the Japanese bases of the US Army. Germany also wants to expand its presence in the Pacific and is currently taking part in maneuvers in the Pacific.
All of this points to the will of the collective West to escalate the conflict with China and to raise it to a military level. The intergovernmental consultations between Japan and the Federal Republic should also be classified in this context.
