Government should have a new meeting on fiscal rules next week

The President’s Government Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) should hold a second meeting next week to discuss the new fiscal anchor that will replace the spending ceiling. This Friday, the 17th, the Minister of Finance, fernando haddad, presented the details of the proposal. At the opportunity, members of the economic team and the Civil House were present. However, after the meeting, Haddad left for São Paulo, where you should spend the weekend. The folder even informed that the minister would no longer return to the headquarters and would go straight to the Air Base of Brasilia. “There is no information from the Treasury about the result of today’s meeting”, said the press office. Earlier, Haddad had said that the decision to disclose or not the fiscal framework this Friday would be up to Lula. “You see, it’s in his hand now. Decision is his. Fazenda has fulfilled its schedule, we will deliver the scenarios to the president and he will forward it”, he told journalists earlier this afternoon, before the meeting with Lula. The expectation is that the proposal for the new fiscal anchor will be disclosed before the meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom), scheduled for March 21 and 22. The president himself said on Wednesday, the 15th, that he intends to make a decision before the official trip to China, scheduled for the next 24th. Regarding the elaboration of the project, Haddad stated that the bill could be drafted in 24 hours, as soon as Lula gives his approval. “He needs to validate the design for us to be able to write it. This does it in 24 hours. It’s simple rules,” he explained. “The matter is with the President of the Republic. It’s a new, consistent design that the president has to validate. Lula has sensitivity, he ruled the country for eight years”, he added.
