One day after the decision that the internal SPÖ power struggle would be decided by a member survey, the election campaign started. SPÖ party leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner answered questions from “ZiB 2” on Thursday evening. Burgenland’s governor Hans Peter Doskozil had previously spoken in the program “Burgenland today”.
Rendi-Wagner sees only one serious difference between himself and Doskozil in terms of content. “The FPÖ is not a coalition partner for me. Doskozil only rules out a coalition with the Kickl-FPÖ”. The true “enemy is the FPÖ,” said Rendi-Wagner on Thursday evening. One must oppose this “ideology”. But that will not work if you want to “imitate FPÖ policy”. Welcomes Doskozil’s demand for a minimum wageRendi-Wagner also welcomes the minimum wage that Doskozil repeatedly demands. However, Burgenland’s governor wants to enshrine this minimum wage in law. The SPÖ boss is not convinced of that. She thinks it is strategically better for the unions to negotiate this minimum wage with employers. “Because then he is better protected. A law can be changed in the next legislative period.” A notary is to be used to monitor the operational implementation of the election of members. Next week there will be another meeting of the party executive committee, where the text of the member survey will be decided. In case of defeat, Rendi-Wagner wants to leave politics. Should Rendi-Wagner lose the election, she announced in the ORF interview that she would “leave politics”. In other words, she will resign as SPÖ boss. Doskozil, in turn, announced that if he were to become SPÖ boss, he would like to remain governor. “This double burden would be compatible for me,” explained. Only for the National Council election campaign would he resign as governor and concentrate entirely on the election campaign.
