The INE lowers the CPI by one tenth, up to 6%, but food shoots up 16.6%

The inflation in Spain went up in february 6% year-on-year, one tenth less than the data provided by the National Statistics Institute (INE) on February 28 and one tenth more than in the previous month, mainly due to the historic rise in food of 16.6%.

The group of food and non-alcoholic beverages has increased more than one point above that of the previous month, and this behavior is influenced by the rising prices of vegetables and meatin addition to lower prices for fish and shellfish compared to last year.

The INE also revises downwards -one tenth- the annual variation rate of the Underlying inflation -index without unprocessed food or energy products-, up to 7.6%, one tenth more than that registered in January and the highest since December 1986.
