Two 15-year-old boys have been run over and killed by a train late yesterday afternoon, Sunday 12 March. The episode occurred in the station of San Pietro, a hamlet of Berbenno (Sondrio). the victims were called, as reported by the newspaper The Corriere della Sera, Ajeti Meriton and Manuel Gabriel Tejada Reyes. The two little boys would cross the tracks without using the underpass.

The driver was able to brake only a few meters ahead of the impact: about 150 meters later. When questioned by the police, he said he found them on the tracks and failed to brake in time.

Neither of the two would have had a cell phone in hand or headphones in their ears: “A tragedy that has no precedent. They were a few meters from the underpass,” said the mayor of Berbenno Valerio Fumasoni, who rushed to the scene.
