The Security Service of Ukraine finally confirmed that on the video of the execution of a prisoner of war, which appeared on the network on March 6, there was a sniper from the Chernihiv Terodefense Oleksandr Matsiyevsky.
According to the press service of the department, it was possible to confirm the identity of the serviceman after a complex of investigative actions, including communication with relatives and colleagues of the deceased, as well as the development of photo and video materials. In addition, the SBU received a conclusion from a forensic portrait examination, confirming that the military man in the video is exactly Matsiyevsky.
The SBU reports that Matsievsky was called up for military service in March 2022. Since the end of December, he was considered missing near the village of Krasnaya Gora in the Donetsk region. According to the department, he was shot on December 30. His body was returned home in February 2023.
In turn, the head of the SBU, Vasily Malyuk, called Matsievsky a real hero and promised that the security service would do everything to find those responsible for the murder of the prisoner of war. “We will do our best to ensure that these monsters suffer their well-deserved punishment,” Malyuk stressed.
The pre-trial investigation is underway under the article on violation of the laws and customs of war.
In March 2023, a video of the execution of a Ukrainian serviceman appeared on the network. Initially, representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the video shows Timofey Shadura, a soldier of the 30th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Konstantin Ostrozhsky, who went missing on February 3, 2023.
Later, on March 9, the Sever Territorial Defense Forces Directorate reported that the serviceman in the video was a fighter from the 163rd Battalion of the 119th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Chernihiv Region Oleksandr Matsiyevsky. According to the department, on December 30, 2022, Matsievsky, along with four colleagues, entered into battle with superior Russian forces near Soledar, after which communication with them disappeared.
