The Slovenian arrived with an advantage of 12 seconds over Gaudu but, far from being satisfied, he once again launched a devastating attack in the last port, the Col d’Eze, to ensure his third stage and the general, points and youth classifications.
The 118-kilometre stage with start and end in Nice It was the last chance for Gaudu and Vingegaard to unseat a Pogacar who had shown himself to be far superior in the mountains from first place. He already managed to win at La Loge des Gardes, putting 44 seconds in just a kilometer and a half from the Dane, and also on Saturday’s stage in Col de la Couillole.
Thanks to those two victories, he had managed to arrive with a lead of 12 seconds over the Frenchman Gaudu and another 58โณ over his main rival and current Tour champion.
