A man was driving through the state of Oregon, in the United States, when the car got stuck, in Willamette National Forest, an area that does not have much maintenance in the winter.
As soon as he realized that the car was stuck in the snow, he tried to call for help, without success. He didn’t have a cell phone network and the situation was especially worrying since the family wasn’t in the country and didn’t even know where he was.
Fortunately, he had a drone with him. The man then wrote a message asking for help, grabbed his cell phone to the drone and sent his only chance to be saved in the air, hoping to find some network signal.
And it was not in vain. Thanks to his creativity, the authorities were able to locate him, as well as another driver, who had been trapped in the snow for several days.
“Despite the circumstances that led him to that situation, he made several very intelligent decisions,” says the Lane County Sheriff’s search and rescue program, also praising the man’s choice to remain inside the car.
Even so, the authorities did not fail to warn of the need to warn family members or friends about where they might be and avoid going out in risky conditions.
The search and rescue team added that most of the vehicles they find are large vehicles, whose owners believe they are prepared to get out of such a situation. “Instead of thinking about whether you can get out of a patch of snow, think about what might happen if you get stuck,” they say.
