After the 4-0 defeat at home in the quarter-finals, VSV was under pressure at KAC. And led 1-0 after four minutes thanks to Captain Joslin. In the end, Villach made it 1-1 in the play-off series with a 4-0 win.
After the VSV had remained without a goal in the home game for the first time this season, this time it worked after only four minutes. Captain Joslin shot the puck flat on the box from behind the goal – and the disc slipped under the ice shoe from KAC goalie Dahm to make it 0:1. KAC had the first siter in the nine minute but Postma was denied by Villach goalie Lamoureux’s mask. In a higher-class game than on Tuesday in Villach, Collins scored the final second against Alu – so it went 0-1 into the dressing room for the first time. Goal in the last minute There was also a real exchange of blows in the second period. KAC had the first seater on the power play, but goalie Lamoureux was able to defuse the Ticar hammer in the follow-up. Lessio failed in the counterattack just as narrowly because of the Villach goalie’s catch hand (30th). In between, VSV crack Lanzinger couldn’t get the puck past KAC goalie Dahm. In the end, Villach was still celebrating the 2-0 in the 40th minute: Mattinnen shot, the puck stayed behind goalie Dahm – and Desjardins pushed it over the line. After a referee review, it was the goal that counted. In the final third, KAC went after the goal, and Haudum had the greatest chance in the 49th minute. A mistake by KAC goalie Dahm put the lid on for Villach. He accidentally alluded to VSV crack Hughes, who only had to slide the disc into the empty case. KAC immediately took the goalie off the ice 6:15 minutes before the end and tried six attackers. But only Rebernig hit the empty goal to make it 0:4.
