Many weeks or even months: Those who are unable to work for a long time receive sick pay from the health insurance company. What if an employee calls and asks how you are doing?
When do you expect to be able to work again?: If you are unable to work for a long time, it may happen that the health insurance company calls and inquires about your state of health. According to the magazine Finanztest, however, insured persons are not obliged to provide information on the phone (issue 3/2023).
Insured persons should respond carefully in such a situation and not get involved in discussions. Katharina Lorenz from the Social Association Germany advises this strategy in Finanztest: Point out in a friendly but firm manner that you are unable to work as long as your sick leave is valid.
And: If the health insurance company asks for information on the phone, you should insist on a written notification.
