The German Catholics will continue their deliberations on reforms at the Synodal Assembly in Frankfurt/Main on Friday (09.00). Among other things, it is about blessing celebrations for homosexual couples and a plea for the admission of women to sacramental offices. The 230 members of the synodal assembly will discuss and vote on these and other reform proposals at the meeting, which will last until Saturday.
All resolutions must be approved by the 67 German bishops with a two-thirds majority. It is uncertain whether this majority will come about, for example, at the blessing ceremonies for homosexual couples. The Vatican has explicitly banned blessings for same-sex couples. Nevertheless, this blessing is already given in many German church communities today. However, the priests who get involved make themselves vulnerable.
