An ex-Barcelona player on the Real Madrid bench?

Last Wednesday, Spanish journalist Tomas Gonzalez-Martin reported on Real Madrid’s possible interest in Mikel Arteta. The Arsenal head coach could therefore succeed Carlo Ancelotti after his contract ends in 2024.

In the past, there has been speculation about a possible engagement of the 63-year-old with the Brazilian national team.

At the beginning of October last year, the Italian told Rai Sport: “I see my future at Real Madrid. This season and next season Real Madrid. Then Real Madrid again and Real Madrid again! Then we’ll see”.

Arteta: “Concentrate on Arsenal”

In the run-up to the Europa League duel between Arsenal and Sportung Lisbon (from 6:45 p.m. in the LIVE ticker), Arteta was asked about the rumors that had arisen about himself. The Spanish tactical fox and former assistant coach of Pep Guardiola kept a low profile.

“I’m fully focused on what I’m doing here at Arsenal. I’m very happy, proud and grateful to be at this football club,” said Arteta at the press conference ahead of the endurance test in the European Cup.

With Bernd Schuster, an ex-player from FC Barcelona already coached arch-rivals Real Madrid (2007-2008). The German previously played for the Catalans as an active professional for eight years before joining the Los Blancos.

Whether history will repeat itself and Arteta, who was trained as a player by the ‘Blaugrana’, will end up on the Real bench remains questionable.
