The presence of bats turned on the La Plata alarm again. Now, a teacher was surprised by the mammal bird when he uncovered the toilet seat in his bathroom.
It happened in the 67 area between 4 and 5. “I got up at dawn to go to the bathroom, turned on the light and when he lifted the toilet lid, I almost died of fright,” he recounted, still moved.
“I called Zoonosis, but since it was on private property, they couldn’t do anything,” they told me.
TO DO
Due to the appearance of bats in an area of the city, the Commune issued a series of preventive advice in case of finding one. In addition, it was recommended to vaccinate dogs and cats against rabies since they can transmit the virus.
“It is important to clarify that bats usually flee in the presence of humans. And in principle they are not dangerous, but they can get rabies and transmit it. If a human being or pet tries to touch it, they can bite and infect it, which is why it is important to vaccinate domestic animals”, explained the director of municipal Zoonoses, Paola Miceli.
When these specimens appear, it is suggested not to touch them, try to cover them with a bucket or container, and in the event of a bite, wash the wound with soap and water and go to the anti-rabies center at 52 and 120.
In this sense, it was specified that generally both dogs and cats try to hunt bats when they enter a home and the mammal’s defense is by biting, and may be a transmitter of the rabies virus. For this reason, vaccination in domestic pets is so important, which is carried out once a year from three months of age.
