Nyeleni Sport Award: Recognition of merit to boost women's sport in Mali

Organized by the Ministry of Sports in collaboration with the National Olympic and Sports Committee of Mali (CNOSM, through the “Women and Sport” Commission), the 1st edition of the “Nyeleni Sports Awards” took place last Saturday (March 3, 2023 ) at the CICB. It was in a festive atmosphere that the work and dedication of women and men for the development and performance of national sport were thus celebrated.

A total of 8 winners received the Nyeleni trophy, including 2 trophies “He for Shewere awarded to sports leaders (including President Habib Sissoko) for their invaluable support for women in sports. Minister Mossa Ag Attaher is the illustrious recipient of the “Special priceawarded to three personalities for their dedication to the development of sport, particularly women’s sport. Among the winners is also our colleague from the ORTM, Ms. Dicko Assa Soumaré who is also an honorary life member of the Association of Sports Journalists of Mali (AJSM).

By initiating this gala dinner, we intend to support this dynamic favorable to the promotion of women’s sport in all its forms. Among these, there is the merit and the recognition of the efforts of all these women and men who have, from yesterday to today, promoted the influence of Malian sport.“, declared Mrs. Sy Aminata Makou Traoré, President of the Commission “Woman and Sportsof the CNOSM.

Honor Roll awarded to Habib Sissoko, President of CNOSM, at the Nyeleni Sports Awards in recognition of his commitment to women sportsmen in Mali.

Speaking on behalf of President Habib Sissoko of CNOSM, Ms. Sangaré Aminata Kéita (Vice-President) presented her warm congratulations to the commission “Woman and Sportsfor her drive and dedication to advancing women’s sport in the country. “This gala night bears the dual symbolism of the celebration of the month of March, Women’s Month, and the reminder of the role of women within the Olympic Movement.“said Ms. Sangaré.

As for the Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (in charge of Civic Education and Citizen Construction), Amadou Diarra Yalcouyé, he congratulated the President of the CNOSM and his Executive Committee for the institutionalization of this initiative aimed at celebrate and pay tribute to the remarkable women who work, often anonymously, to promote gender equality in sport. “This pilot action perfectly contributes to the implementation of the department’s vision, which is to make sport a means of promoting gender equality and ensuring the autonomy of girls and women in the country.“, underlined the representative of Mali Mossa Ag Attaher.

It should be noted that the president of the commissionWoman and Sportsof the CNOMS was one of the heroines of the gala evening without wanting to be. Indeed, behind the scenes, her leadership and her commitment to the involvement of women in the development of sport in Mali, without any discrimination, have been greatly praised. “It’s women like her who can move Mali“, defended a guest seduced by the combativeness of the woman-leader and former African taekwondo champion.

This first edition was organized by the charming and dynamic Aminata Makou Traoré Sy.
