It’s getting really windy now – there is a storm warning in Central Switzerland

The weather in Switzerland is changing: for large parts of central Switzerland, «MeteoNews» strong wind forecast. A “stormy wind” is even expected in parts of western Switzerland. “SRF Meteo” writes that in many places in Central Switzerland the gusts will reach between 70 and 90 kilometers per hour. The warning applies from 8 p.m. Wednesday evening to 9 a.m. Thursday morning. “Gusts of more than 100 km/h can occur in the mountains, and hurricane gusts in exposed peaks and ridges,” says the MeteoNews website. “SRF Meteo” even expects speeds of up to 150 kilometers per hour. “At times, certain mountain railways will have to stop operating,” says their website.

A good week ago, the Mittelland and western Switzerland were hit by stormy winds. 149 km/h were measured on La Dôle in western Switzerland last Monday. In the region around Lake Geneva, the federal government declared danger level 3 (considerable danger). At this level, it is advised to avoid being outdoors.

Windy and mild weather with temperatures of 13 to 14 degrees awaits us in the north on Thursday and Friday. “MeteoNews” expects a significant amount of precipitation, which should be strongest on Saturday. Depending on the model, precipitation amounts between 100 and 130 millimeters, sometimes even 200 millimeters are expected. “MeteoNews” expects the most precipitation in Valais. After a winter that was far too dry, the coming precipitation eases the situation in northern Switzerland.
