Who will be the first witnesses of the impeachment trial?

The testimony that generates the most expectations is that of the federal prosecutor of Comodoro Py Carlos Stornelli. His statement had emerged during the first round of witnesses and is linked to an opinion issued in the case of the chats between Marcelo D’Alessandro and the spokesperson for Horacio Rosatti, Silvio Robles. The official considered that he could not advance the investigation because the first piece of evidence (the telephone conversations) arose from a “criminal activity” (hacking or illegal espionage).

Federal prosecutor Carlos Stornelli was summoned to testify as a witness in the political trial of the members of the Supreme Court of Justice.

The elusive prosecutor

According to information from the Attorney General of the Nation, Stornelli will not attend today’s hearing, but made himself available “in writing”. If so, we will have to wait for the decision of the Impeachment Commission since its regulations establish that it is mandatory to appear before a summons like this. However, Stornelli has experience in the art of missing.

This is the prosecutor who was declared in “default” by the federal judge of Dolores Alejo Ramos Padilla after refusing to give a statement for more than 6 months. Finally, when he had no choice, he appeared and ended up being prosecuted for integrating an alleged illegal network of espionage and extortion together with the false lawyer. Marcelo D’Alessio.

Back in 2020 until the president of the Nation, Alberto Fernandez, had been uneasy about Stornelli’s situation. “I am concerned that a prosecuted prosecutor will continue to be a prosecutor,” he said.
