Sexual harassment downplayed - Angers coach resigns

Moroccan Abdel Bouhazama has resigned from his post as coach of French first division club SCO Angers after making a comment that downplayed sexual harassment.

The decision was made the evening before by mutual agreement between the management and the coach, the club announced on Tuesday. The association does not accept any form of discrimination and condemns sexism and misogyny.

A player who has to answer for the sexual harassment of a woman in a nightclub, Bouhazama tried to defend with inappropriate words, as several media reported with reference to witnesses.

“It’s not bad, we’ve all groped girls,” Bouhazama reportedly remarked.

In order to clear up any ambiguity and misunderstanding, the association emphasizes that it unreservedly condemns the statement, even if it was made less out of sexism and more out of clumsiness.

Bouhazama apologized to his colleagues, especially female colleagues. As the newspaper “Le Figaro” reported on Tuesday, the coach was already under pressure due to a lack of sporting success.
