Rubiales "cynical" and "demagogue" to Risto Mejide for his comment on the World Cup

Risto Mejide has moved with his program to Motril, Granada, to receive his new guest, Luis Rubiales. The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation has returned to the program of Laura Escanes’s ex to address new issues that have been shaking the sports scene.

Mejide began by reminding Rubiales of the promise he broke. “You made me a promise and you haven’t kept it,” Risto reminded him. Rubiales said in the last program that he was with Risto that: “It will be seen that football is in favor of human rights. The Spanish federation is in negotiations that have not crystallized. I’ll call you on the phone to tell you what this was. Our commitment to the LGTBI collective is there.”

Risto was clear with his question: “What has been done for the LGTBI collective, women and children in the World Cup in Qatar?” “Very much,” replied the president. “We made a presentation at the Las Rozas headquarters with the United Nations where we revealed a series of agreements“, Rubiales defended himself.

Mejide reformulated his question: “What did the Spanish team do in the World Cup for those groups?” “We go out onto the field, put on our kit and play a game, what are we going to do? Every time there is a possibility of giving support in a public way, it is given,” added Rubiales.

The presenter of ‘Traveling with Chester’ reminded Rubiales that “the German team protested for not being able to put on the bracelet…”. “And what did the German team do?” Rubiales said, cutting off Risto. “Cover your mouth in that photo,” the communicator quickly responded. “Well… And do you think that really…?“, the president justified himself. “He went around the world,” Mejide settled.

“Wouldn’t you feel more proud of a team that did that?” Mejide asked. “No“, the president answered without hesitation. “That of a team that plays and leaves, it doesn’t care about human rights and how homosexuals are treated,” Risto Mejide finished. “That’s a statement I don’t agree with.“Louis replied.

“If you don’t let me talk, this is very difficult, Risto,” Luis established. “This is not an interview, this is a conversation,” Mejide remarked. “You put many labels and I think you’re wrong. you have to let me speak“, the president reproached him.

“What cannot be put to the Spanish team, that we are football, in the position of being able to fix the world,” Rubiales defended his position. “What difference is there with the German team?“, asked Mejide. “The decision of FIFA is useful for us, isn’t it for you?”, the president was interested.

“It’s not that it’s not worth it, it’s that it seems cynical to me…”, Mejide raised his tone. “Well, it seems cynical to me that he seems cynical to you, because, in addition, he is a demagogue“, Luis answered. After a long discussion between them, Risto made it clear that “we would have done very well not to go“. Rubiales continued to defend his position that countries like Qatar and the Middle East “they are evolving a lot“.
