Keine Teile von Huawei mehr: Das Ende von 5G in Deutschland?

7 mar 2023 10:50 p.m

It comes as feared – after the devastating sanctions against Russia, the same game now begins against China. The Federal Ministry of the Interior now wants to ban parts of Huawei in German mobile networks. You will have to wait a long time for 5G in Germany.

The federal government has once again caved in to the USA and now intends to ban components from Huawei for installation in German mobile phone networks. The reason for this is the (unproven) fear that the components could be used for espionage.

Even parts that have already been installed are to be replaced. In Germany, which is still a latecomer in the expansion of the mobile network and cannot even ensure 4G nationwide, this is likely to lead to further delays.

The use of Chinese components, which according to customer statements was primarily due to their quality and reliability, is now seen as a “dependence”. It was only at the end of January that the Federal Office for Information Security certified a component from Huawei as secure. By the beginning of April, all telecommunications companies should send a list of the installed parts from Huawei to the Ministry of the Interior.

Politicians from the SPD and CDU welcomed the move to ban Chinese technology. “In view of the changed security situation, we cannot tolerate any hardware from manufacturers that are not completely trustworthy in the core networks”, expressed the digital policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group, Jens Zimmermann. Norbert Röttgen (CDU) explained: “Huawei and other providers who are under the influence of the Chinese government are a security risk in our networks.”

China's General Settlement: US Cultural Hegemony and the Spread of False Narratives

The USA had long ago banned the use of Chinese components; since then, the expansion of the 5G network there has stalled noticeably. The US action certainly has long-term consequences: At that time, the daughter of the CEO of Huawei was arrested in Canada on behalf of the US and held for three years. In the course of the year she is now to take over as CEO.

Despite the numerous allegations against Huawei, there is still no evidence of illegal actions in either the USA or Germany. In contrast, since Edward Snowden’s revelations, there have been tangible concerns about US technology. A corresponding reaction is not yet planned, and there is no talk of a ban on the use of US components in German telephone networks.
