Meat is back: - The first vegan Burger King branch has had its day

Last summer, the fast food chain Burger King opened its first purely vegan branch at Vienna’s Westbahnhof in Austria. After only eight months, however, this pilot project is already history.

At the location at the Vienna Westbahnhof there was no more meat, milk or egg products. The popular burgers were made there exclusively from 100 percent plant-based products. Expectations were high, and vegan burgers were even given away for two hours when it reopened in July 2022. “Serving the same high quality based on 100 percent vegan products is a milestone in the development of our meat-free range for people with a conscious lifestyle,” said Jan-Christoph Küster, Head of Marketing at Burger King in Austria, at the time. Regular branches also have a vegan range. But after just eight months, the attempt is history again. As the branch manager confirmed to the start-up platform “brutkasten.com”, the branch at Westbahnhof was converted back into a regular branch. “In addition to the vegan range, we are also offering meat burgers again and are open regularly for our guests,” he emphasized. He did not want to explain further reasons.
