live commentary

We report live from 6.45 p.m. from the Sparkasse Arena in Bozen.

Linz versus Bolzano. Or Bolzano against Linz. Whichever way you look at it, it’s actually become something of a playoff classic over the past decade. For the fourth time this encounter will be held this year in a quarter-final series. Only the series between Klagenfurt, Vienna and Salzburg (in all possible constellations) have also been played four times in the past ten years. And Klagenfurt against Bolzano.

Matt Murphy (ill) and Daine Todd (sick) are missing from Linz today. But it will probably depend on the defensive department in particular. Read more thoughts on this in our Overtime blog:

The Steinbach Black Wings are the clear underdogs going into the playoff quarter-final series against HCB Südtirol.

(K) An opportunity that should be used

The people of Linz have done everything in their power to get the series off to the best possible start. Already yesterday, only 17 hours after the playoff participation was fixed in the first place, the people of Linz made their way to South Tyrol. They stayed at the Sheraton Hotel, just 750 meters from the ice rink. Today – like yesterday – there will be some briefings as well as a pre-game skate. That means: The stresses are kept low – the team should rather be adjusted to the way the foxes play. It’s about the subtleties – such as the most important positions in the majority game of today’s hosts.

It remains to be seen to what extent the people of Linz can implement what Philipp Lukas, Jürgen Penker and Mark Szücs show them. A great ice hockey game and the first “real” playoff evening in almost exactly three years is imminent. Back in 2020, the Black Wings won Game 3 away against KAC. Game 4 was no longer kicked off, the season ended prematurely due to the corona pandemic. And in the two years after that, Linzer should have nothing to do with the playoffs.

Niklas Bretschneider, yesterday, before leaving for Bozen:

Head coach Philipp Lukas, also yesterday, also before departure:

Brian Lebler’s “Here we go” interview on Sunday evening to Puls24:

In order to be able to get in the mood for the game, we recommend our icebreaker podcast series on Linz’s first championship title. So far, Rick Nasheim and Robert Lukas have been guests. The next episode will follow on Thursday.
