La Porqueriza became a war zone

Dozens of police invaded La Porqueriza to control the situation.

The popular sector known as “La Porqueriza”, between Pueblo Nuevo and Río Abajo, was the scene this Sunday of a pitched battle between policemen who were after a subject with a pending document, and neighbors who defended him so that he would not be apprehended. There were shots, stones and bottles being thrown, fists, kicks and shouting.

The scenes filmed by residents of La Porqueriza show a strong contingent of armed police officers, who fired at individuals who were shooting at them between the buildings. As of yesterday afternoon, the arrest of three people had been confirmed, including the man they were initially looking for, whose identity has not been reported.

Deputy Commissioner Edgardo Núñez, Executive of the San Francisco Police Zone, reported that they initially received an alert that the subject in the pending case was in La Porqueriza, and that he was armed. A first group of uniformed officers went to 22nd street in La Porqueriza to capture him, but a group of residents greeted them with bottles, stones and even shots.

“We had to redouble the operation,” said Deputy Commissioner Núñez. Dozens of police invaded La Porqueriza to control the situation. Three people who attacked the uniformed officers were apprehended, and until yesterday operations continued to capture more involved in obstructing justice.
