Former Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Alexei Ulyukaev, who was released in May 2022, gave his first interview after his release. It came out on the YouTube channel “Find a mammoth”.
During an interview, Ulyukaev said that after leaving the colony, he “finally felt like a private person.”
“I have lived quite a long life and have never been private. I was, then, somehow a little removed from life, then a big boss, then a convict. And now here I am a man among men. It’s an amazing thrill actually walking the streets acting like everyone else,” he said.
During an interview, Ulyukaev said that after his release, he became the chief expert at the Yegor Gaidar Economic Policy Foundation.
Alexei Ulyukaev has been imprisoned since November 2016 in a case of extorting two million dollars as a bribe from the head of Rosneft, Igor Sechin. In December 2017, the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow sentenced Ulyukaev to eight years in a strict regime colony and a fine of more than 130 million rubles. Ulyukaev pleaded not guilty and stated that he was the victim of a provocation. In May 2022, he was released on parole.
