Conference League: Alkmaar turns game against Lazio

Lazio lose UEFA Conference League round of 16 first leg 2-1 at home to Alkmaar!

After just two minutes, Lazio had their first top chance: Milinkovic-Savic chased a Zaccagni cross on goal, the ball went just wide of the box to the right.

In the 18th minute of the game, the Romans can take the lead. Alkmaar captain Clasie loses the ball in midfield, Lazio comes on the offensive from the left. After Zaccagni crossed in, Pedro took the ball directly and made it 1-0.

Ryan then saves against Pedro, who has the quick 2-0 on the foot from an acute angle (26th). In return, Alkmaar almost equalises, but a deflected shot only hits the post (30′).

Shortly before the break, however, the 1:1 still succeeds. Karlsson serves Pavlidis, who scores from a tight angle (45′). Just seconds after the equalizer, Milinkovic-Savic missed the lead again, and goalkeeper Ryan just managed to deflect his shot to the crossbar (45+1).

After the break, AZ turned the game around: Karlsson and Kerkez worked together to break the Lazio defence, Kerkez pushed the ball through the braces of goalkeeper Luis Maximiano to make it 2-1 (62′).

Lazio then increases the pressure, but can no longer equalize. Felipe Anderson cannot use a rebound from the goalkeeper (73rd), and in the 80th minute he shoots just wide.

With the 2-1 victory, AZ creates a good starting position for the second leg, which takes place in Alkmaar next Thursday (9:00 p.m.).
