YouTube has practiced censorship on an increasing scale in recent years, removing channels from any user who dares to contradict Western narratives, particularly on events in Ukraine. Now the well-known Russian pranksters Wowan and Lexus have been caught, and they have been able to uncover many a state secret with their phone pranks on politicians.
The legendary Russian “pranksters” have later embarrassed many European and US politicians or stars with their calls by being able to elicit unpleasant secrets from them. Among the victims of prank calls were also Angela MerkelVitali Klitschko, Petro Poroshenko, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Elton-John, Boris Johnson, StephenKing, Ben WallaceJoanne K. Rowling and many other celebrities.
On Sunday, the US video platform YouTube deleted the channel of the two on which they had published the video recordings of the phone calls with their victims. According to the screenshots published instead, the channel was removed “for violating the community rules”: Serious violations were said to have been found. However, it is not explicitly stated which violations are specifically blamed on the channel operators.
Vladimir Kuznetsov (stage name Wowan) reacted calmly to the censorship measure. Opposite the Russian News Agency RIA Novosti he explained on Monday that the removal of his channel from the video platform will not affect the future activities of the two:
“It will not affect our activities in any way. We have been present on Russian platforms for a long time: RuTube, Vkontakte and on Telegram.”
The duo plans to continue sharing their material on foreign platforms so that “the citizens of other countries know the true nature of their politicians.”
According to Kuznetsov, his channel was blocked by the YouTube administration because the West is afraid of the truth:
“All these blockades show that we are indeed feared by representatives of the Western mainstream, and we are among the few in Russia who are sending the truth abroad, including about Russia.”
In recent months, the pranks of Wowan and Lexus have become increasingly politically explosive. That’s what they told the former Ombudsman of Ukraine Lyudmila Denisova elicited confessionthat their reports of alleged rapes by Russian soldiers in Ukraine were mostly fabricated.
