Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has broken a world record by taking 184 selfies with fans in three minutes. The Guinness World Record was broken towards the end at Mehboob Studios in Mumbai, India. One of the previous record holders is … Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, an actor loved by many, who recently starred in the movie Black Adam. His result, however, has already been beaten many times, and compared to the new leader – he was almost twice as bad.
Guinness World Record for taking a selfie
To break the record, Akshay stood between two queues that his fans had formed for the actor to take as many selfies as possible. The actor’s fans approached him from both sides, entered the frame to take a picture, then immediately backed out of the shot to make room for the next person. It sounds strange, but when I outline the context in a moment – everything will become clear.
Here’s how the record was broken:
Akshay took 209 photos in three minutes, however, some selfies were disqualified due to blurred faces. According to the Guinness Book of Records, all selfies must be sharp and bright enough for the person in the photo to be recognized and identified. Despite the rejection of 25 selfies, Akshay easily broke the world record – his score to 184 selfies.
It is worth noting that breaking the record was related to the premiere of the film Selfieswhose trailer you can watch below. The name says a lot and it is not difficult to understand why, as part of the promotional campaign, it was decided to break the Guinness record.
Who did Akshay Kumar beat?
Previously, the world record for the most selfies belonged to James Smith from the USA, who took 168 selfies in 2018 aboard the Carnival Dream cruise ship in three minutes. British footballer Alan Shearer also won the title, taking 134 selfies with children aged three to 18 in Gosforth, UK in 2017.
Even earlier, the record was held by Donnie Wahlberg from a boy band whose popularity peaked in the 80s and 90s. It’s about New Kids on The Block. The singer/actor took 122 selfies with guests on The Block Cruise in Cozumel, Mexico. Prior to Wahlberg, the record was held by actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who set the record with 105 selfies in three minutes at the 2015 London premiere of San Andreas.
